TrailMapsEtc. specializes in the creation and production of high quality, full-color
recreational maps. We use high tech instrumentation and computer graphic software
to create our products. The accuracy of our products is dependent upon map scale.
What is unique about our products is the incorporation of contour information to
create gradient calculations and to provide visual information about terrain character.
Professor McDermott one of the authors of the C & O Canal Map, has studied and written
about the canal for over 30 years. He is a professional Historical Geographer and
has written four books, over 50 geographic articles, and his works have appeared
in North America and Europe. He is an avid fine-art photographer and has won many
prizes. His work has appeared in many exhibits in Maryland including Ratner, Kentlands,
Friendship Heights, Studio One, the Winery and others.
Thomas (Tom) D. Rabenhorst is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Maryland Baltimore
County (UMBC) and the Director of Instructional Cartography. He has been mapping
state parks for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources for more than twenty-five
years. Since 1975, Tom has been a crucial player in the development of Cartography,
Remote Sensing, and GIScience at UMBC. He has overseen the development and production
of numerous maps and digital atlases. He teaches Cartography, Remote Sensing, and
Physical Geography. As a consultant, he has developed graphics for a number of boundary
dispute cases argued at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. His love
of teaching and the development of spatial graphics have kept him at the nexus of
Cartography, Remote Sensing and GIS.
